Professional Experience
Xia Zheng is the founder of AFD China Intellectual Property. She started her career in intellectual property practice in 1987. Since then she has had many years of experience in Chinese intellectual property prosecution, enforcement, licensing, and counseling. Her practice covers patent prosecution, reexamination and invalidation, trademark prosecution, opposition and review, and intellectual property enforcement, as well as counseling on copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition, domain name issues, and other matters related to intellectual property rights. She also counsels IP owners actively with regard to strategic intellectual property problem solving issues and IP management by offering legal analysis, advises, and solutions.
After completing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Ms. Zheng obtained a Master of Science degree at University Illinois in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. She also received a Master of Engineering degree in Petrochemical Engineering. Ms. Zheng studied Intellectual Property Law in the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire, and graduated with a Master degree. She has also received several diplomas with honor from Shanghai Intellectual Property College, the China Patent Office, the China University of Political Science and Law, and People University of China.
Before founding AFD in 2002, Ms. Zheng has experiences from a patent agent, patent attorney, and Director of a department to a Director of an IP Office respectively. She was the director and managing partner of Beijing Office of Lungtin International Patent and Trademark Agent Ltd., and Assistant General Director and Director of Application Department of China Science Patent Agent Ltd. respectively. Her prior in-house intellectual property work includes patent management and prosecution for the Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, SINOPEC too. Her industry experience includes research work at the Institute relating to cracking catalysts, as well as work with Human Genome Sciences.
Ms. Zheng’s practice covers many different technical areas, including chemical and petrochemical products and processes, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and Chinese medicinal sciences, organic synthesis, metallurgy, materials science, agricultural chemicals and processes, semiconductors, mechanical engineering, telecommunications, instruments, and other technologies.
